While most of our member workshops are educational in nature, we decided to switch things up for February with an outdoor meetup that is nature in nature. So meta, we know. We've also received a few requests from freelancing members with less traditional work schedules to hold a member event during the weekdays, so hopefully we will see some new faces at this mid-day event!
Members, please join us on Tuesday, February 4 at 10am for our first ever group hike! The location is posted in the new online Member Toolbox and in our private Facebook group. Please RSVP so we know how many folks to wait for at the trailhead! If you're a San Diego-based creative womxn interested in participating in this meetup, we'd love to have you! Please register to join Lady Brain Collective here!

Thanks to everyone who attended the first Lady Brain Collective member workshop of the year at the IDEA1 Idea Box in East Village. To start, we brainstormed and strategized upcoming events and workshops to offer to the collective and the community in 2020. Next, we spent some time discussing our intentions for the new year. Rather than focus too much on external goals, we talked about internal values, mindset, limiting beliefs, and more. We also explored the idea of removing obstacles within the realm of our control and unburdening ourselves of the ones that are not. Finally, we finished with every creative dreamer's favorite activity of the new year: vision boards! So much inspiration. So many glue sticks. Are you a San Diego-based womxn pursuing a creative career? Join us! Are you interested in helping support our collective's mission? Please show up for the creative womxn of this community by becoming a sponsor.
Lady Brain Collective is excited to kick off 2020 with our first member workshop of the year on Sunday, January 5 at a private location in downtown San Diego's East Village neighborhood from 11am-2pm. We'll briefly map out some important dates and projects for Lady Brain Presents and spend the rest of the time on strategizing personal and professional goals and intentions for the year. If you're a vision boardy person, we'll provide some paper, magazines, scissors, etc. Feel free to bring anything that will help you get organized and inspired such as planners, journals, laptops, etc. You can also bring a snack/drink to share, but it is not required. Workshops are open and free to Lady Brain Collective members. If you are a San Diego-based womxn creative looking for resources and support in physical and digital spaces, please consider joining the collective! Thanks to all who attended yesterday's branding and marketing workshop at the IDEA1 rooftop clubhouse. Our presenter, Alyssa Douglas from City 6 Studios, provided a ton of great information about developing brand identity, following through with consistent social media content and engagement, and outsourcing tasks in order to free up time. According to Alyssa, one of the greatest ways to stay on-brand is to create and stick to a style guide. Not sure what that is? Here are some visual examples of various style guides from some brands you may recognize. Not sure how to build your own style guide? We suggest contacting Alyssa for guidance - she is a total pro, and she really cares about helping local creatives succeed. That's her brand! And we know she means it - not only did she donate her time and energy to this workshop, she is also a workshop sponsor and makes it possible for Lady Brain Presents to continue providing educational resources to our members. If you are a womxn-identifying creative in San Diego who wants to learn more about Lady Brain Collective and our monthly workshops, take a look at our FAQ page for info. If you or your company believe in our collective's mission of empowering and educating members, please consider becoming a Lady Brain Lover. We rely on community support to keep this Lady Brian train running full steam ahead.
We had a great workshop last night! Special thanks to Karina Frost Moreno for hosting us and to Marti Amado Corr from Amado Music for speaking to the group on the topic of music licensing. We learned so much about production music companies. Marti shared some advice for songwriters on how to partner with producers and break into the world of writing for production music, plus she also gave some tips for backing musicians on how to go about finding session work with local producers. Thank you to our workshop sponsors for helping us continue to offer awesome and affordable educational resources for our members! If you'd like to help us with this mission, please consider becoming a sponsor!
Thank you to members who attended yesterday's workshop on DIY publicity! Shout out to Amy Day for hosting us at her house. It was great to see some first-timers in the mix and also to welcome several types of creators. This month, we talked about DIY Publicity. Lindsay White shared some tips and tricks for securing media placements when you don't have a budget to hire a publicist. Afterward, we opened the discussion up to the group about best practices for promotion. It was helpful to hear so many different ideas and perspectives. Lots of great info!
8/31/2019 0 Comments August Workshop Recap - Special Guest Kelsea Rae Little, GoFundMe Media DirectorThanks to all who attended our August meet-up! Shout out to Jessica Lerner for hosting us and setting up a lovely mimosa station! This month's special guest was Kelsea Rae Little, Media Director at GoFundMe and host of True Stories of Good People podcast. Kelsea fielded our questions about crowdfunding and shared her story of how she got involved with GoFundMe, as well as severals stories of some of the everyday heroes who have used the platform to do good work in the world. There was not a dry eye in the room!
We know, we know, we say it every month, but July's meet-up was SO GOOD! Maybe it was because we were riding the wave of a successful inaugural Lady Brain Fest. Maybe it was the full house, the artsy space, or the nachos. It was definitely the inspiring and collaborative presentations from our host Astra Kelly, Carissa Schroeder, and Sandi King - all Lady Brain members, talented creatives, and compassionate entrepreneurs. Carissa kicked things off with a chill mindful vocal meditation/warm up. It was exactly what we needed on a Monday night to center and connect with ourselves and each other. Next, Sandi talked about her new venture, Backseat Booking. No matter the tour route or style of music, Sandi is a wealth of information when it comes to touring. She can help indie artists book entire tours, or give them the tools they need to successfully plan their own routes. Astra of soulsong.life rounded out the evening with a songwriting workshop demo that resulted in some pretty special goosebump moments - once we found the right melody (thanks, Jessica Lerner) and hook, magic energy was swirling all around the room. Looking forward to next month's meetup!
Shout out to Heather Marie for hosting the March meet-up in her lovely home! This month, we talked about working with audio techs to capture the best sound at live events. (Thanks to John Mcconnell for taking our questions and to Heather for presenting his answers to the group.) We also received a stellar presentation from Lady Brain member Sharisse Coulter. We learned so much! It's so wonderful to see this group growing. Thanks to all who attended!
2/3/2019 0 Comments February Member Workshop RecapSpecial thanks to Corina Rose for hosting this month's member meet-up. We did some great networking and got the ball rolling on planning some awesome showcases in the coming months, including the first annual Lady Brain Fest, which will feature a 100% womxn-fronted lineup! Most importantly, we learned a lot about what kinds of resources and support members are looking for. Thanks to all attended - we can't wait to grow with you!
