About Lady Brain Presents
HOW IT BEGAN
Lady Brain Presents is the result of queer feminist Lindsay White processing extreme rage over an unacceptable 2016 election and extreme grief after the death of her estranged mother just a few months later. In December 2018, Lindsay emerged from this mental fog with a new determination to nurture her life and friendships in the moment, to overcome the isolation of being an artist in a digital world, and to actively combat systemic injustices. In December 2018, she invited a handful of the most creative and hard-working womxn she knew over for a casual brunch in her living room. The group shared stories about the joys and pains of being an artist, navigating business, digital spaces, societal expectations, burnout, and more. It was a vulnerable and transformative experience with a consensus that continuing to meet in safe physical spaces and to pool resources would be beneficial to all. The Lady Brain Collective was born.
VISION
Lady Brain Presents, the public iteration of the Lady Brain Collective, supports, empowers, and showcases womxn and gender minorities/nonconforming creatives who reside on or have ties to the Kumeyaay land and community known as San Diego, while also offering assistance and/or resistance for intersecting social justice issues.

MEMBERSHIP
Please visit the FAQ page to learn more about membership requirements and the Join page to submit your membership request. We are committed to creating an open, safe, and educational space for all members and partners. This includes acknowledging, confronting, and utilizing our own privilege to help shine a light on the voices and stories that so often go unheard within so many communities.
EVOLUTION & COMMITMENT TO SOCIAL JUSTICE
Since our inception in late 2018, we have been committed to carving out a place for our members by creating opportunities where they didn’t already exist, exposing the community to our members’ work, and offering assistance/resistance to health and social justice matters affecting our membership and communities. Our membership consists of so many voices and forms of expression, and we lift up these voices artistically via our monthly, member-led community gatherings. Lady Brain’s very existence is a social and political statement; our work speaks for itself. However, the coronavirus pandemic and the tragic continuation of Black lives being cut short at the hands of police and others directly violate the safety of our members and threaten our vision and mission. As long as this collective exists, we will continue to educate ourselves, each other, and the community on social justice issues and commit to using our platform, our privilege, and our art to speak out against injustice and dismantle oppression in all its forms.
